About Us

Manly Independent is a local community group supporting our community’s democratic representation.

History in the making.

The voters of Warringah sent a strong message about the power of community independents candidates first in 2019, and then with improved results in the 2022 federal election resulting in Zali Steggall OAM MP being returned to Canberra.

Just north of Warringah, Dr Sophie Scamps MP won the seat of Mackellar making it the first time the seat has been out of Liberal hands. To the west of Warringah, Kylea Tink MP won the seat of North Sydney as a Community Independent.

In May 2022 many communities across Australia voted in independents - an historic moment for Australian politics.

In the March 2023 state election, at least 9 seats including just north of us in Wakehurst were won by independents across the state.

Voters in Manly delivered a 45% Independent versus 55% Liberal 2-party-preferred split, showing a big appetite for local service without political party block voting and factions.

We have an opportunity for independent representation at all levels of government in Manly. Independents have represented Manly during the 90s and early 2000s and now federally since 2019.

Let’s make history again.

Zali Steggall and Sophie Scamps show that “independents can make a real difference to policy.
